Nano, Hybrids, Electric et al. – No More Cars

It is my humble opinion that cars and indeed, any form of personal transport is a totally redundant and unsustainable solution to transportation needs of humans – no matter what the latest developments in the car world are. If we can imagine a world without cars, then the market will adapt itself to provide solutions to the commuting needs of the classes and the masses. Frankly, I dont understand why people keep wandering about. Is it our nomadic gene in action?
There are statistics that the manufacture of a typical car uses 40000(0) litres of water and many magnitudes of energy than it generates. There are arguments that hybrid cars are not really green if the battery disposal problems are not solved. There are fallacies that new electric and fuel-efficient cars are the order of the day because these are expensive and out of reach for first-time buyers and even so, with Tata Nano for example, it is an increase in volume of traffic and per-capita ownership of wasteful metal/fibre-glass. There are facts that the engine works at less than 20% efficiency. I could go on an on but people are thick-skinned and butt-headed and so, here is an oft-neglected spokesperson…
