SaaS – Software as a Service – Cloud Computing

Many people dont realize that SaaS is not a new jargon as it has existed for a long time now. The same is true for the ‘cloud computing’ buzzword. Hello, SMTP anyone? We were not running SMTP servers on PCs and MACs, were we? Philosophically too, because software is etherware, it was never a ‘product’ and hence, has always been a service no matter what the terms and cost of the licenses are. However, I am terribly excited about the offshoot – SaaS provisioned on ‘cloud computing’ platform. Lips are zipped for now.
With due respect to Isaac Newton, or maybe not because the pebble-and-ocean quote is controversially being attributed to Plato, I do not know what I may appear to the world, but to myself IT seems to have been only like a boy learning to ride a bicycle, and diverting now and then finding a jazzier buzzword or a recycled jargon, whilst the great sky with computing clouds lay all ready to go and run software before us. Interesting days ahead for the world ahoy…
